The MDL Beast festival in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia has ended and from the pictures and videos it was gloriously awesome.
It shouldn’t be a secret to anyone that Middle Eastern countries are a place where wealth prospers. From oil to real estate, massive entrepreneurships have settled there in what sometimes seems like a tutorial on how to spend money lavishly. So naturally, when Saudi Arabia decided to organize an electronic music festival, the world was all ears: cue the MDL Beast Festival.
It truly lived up to its name: a massive mega festival comprised of music, arts & culture and culinary showcases came together with dance music beats being the binding agent between all that.
From the 19th to the 21st, fans assembled in Riyadh to watch their favorite artists from all around the world. Spread out through 5 different stages, a luxury lineup of artists performed. Tiesto, Martin Garrix, Salvatore Ganacci, Sebastian Ingrosso, Afrojack, R3HAB, Camelphat, Fisher… the talent is endless. On the techno side of things, Jamie Jones, Peggy Gou, Danny Tenaglia and more marveled Saudi fans.
The festival even went a step further by arranging several back 2 back sets, some even combining top tier artists: David Guetta x Steve Aoki, Marco Carola x Black Coffee and Salvatore Ganacci x Sebastian Ingrosso all played the “Big Beast” stage where 45 000 gathered to see them live.
Although some have tried to politicize the festival and claim it was just a PR ploy to raise Saudi Arabia’s image to a more positive note, one cannot deny the numbers, with over 130 000 people attending it on the first day. Hopefully such a festival continues to spread dance music love and union in every part of the world.
