Last weekend, during Hard Bass, a new mysterious act was brought up on stage for the last part of the I Am Hardstyle showcase… The artist, who was introduced as Aftershock and presented himself with his face covered, was announced by MC Villain as someone who’s “been working from the shadows for a very long time”.

During the event, fans online quickly picked up on the story, mocking the artist at first, saying it is yet another masked raw act, as these have been popping up here and there in the last few years, riding the ever rising wave of Raw Hardstyle themed acts and artists. But many fans started arguing that this may have more to it than that…

Word on the street is that this masked artist may actually be Wesley Fanger, who was known as Shockerz, a very talented artist who appeared almost 10 years ago on X-Bone Records and that had a few releases on Scantraxx that were widely acclaimed, until he disappeared around 2014, allegedly due to hearing issues. There are a few things that do add up to this story, as we’ll see below.

Starting off with the first track from his showcase, Aftershock played what was thought to be, up until that time, a bootleg by Sub Sonik, which has been rumored for a long time to be ghosted by Wesley.

The artist name and the way he was introduced also match this story rather nicely. Aftershock is somewhat similar to Shockerz, and if the rumors are anything to go by, he has indeed been working on the shadows.

Adding to all the above, Wesley has been mentioned on the credits of Brennan Heart’s I Am Hardstyle album, which means he’s at least somewhat close to Brennan Heart and/or WE R.

To top it all off, social media profiles have been created for the new alias, and the old Shockerz YouTube account has been changed during the weekend to accommodate for this, as reported on Reddit, and has since been deleted.

Adding all up, we can say with a reasonable degree of certainty that this is who the community really believes to be… And a return of a high profile artist to live performances is always welcome! In the meantime, be sure to keep an eye out for news regarding this new act!
