Boy, is this week special! Just for your quarantined ears we talked up with an OG big player of the game: Plastik Funk is our 47th guest!
Real name Rafael Ximenez-Carrillo, this brother has been on top of his game. He had his early start like many do today: after a couple of high school gigs in which he focused mainly on hip-hop, Rafael shifted towards the Religion of House, influenced by the like of the great late Frankie Knuckles and David Morales. It was also when he discovered his future wingman – german DJ/Producer Mikio Gruschinske – thus joining forces to create the mighty Plastik Funk.
Following a debut single, the Do it Right EP in 2003, the guys never stopped since, being referenced by the likes of David Guetta and Deadmau5 and performing on the biggest stages like Tomorrowland, Parookaville and Ultra. However, after health concerns in 2017/2018, Mikio stopped the touring and stepped aside to heal, leaving Rafael to carry the legacy. Not only did he thoroughly succeed, he has since been elevating it further, collaborating with Timmy Trumpet and the always stunning NERVO twins to name a few. With 700 000+ monthly Spotify listeners, the math added up perfectly for Plastik Funk to graciously feature on our 47th episode of Future Connection.
Plastik Funk went housey like always, featuring a mix with tracks from KURA, Damien N-Drix, Brooks, NERVO, Diplo and many more. Going 54s beyond the 60min allotted time, Plastik Funk prepared something truly special for you, are you ready? Be sure to sit back, relax, and let Plastik Funk‘s sounds fill your speakers!
