At long last the first milestone: the big 2-0. Our Imminent radioshow has reached its 20th edition and who better to celebrate than No ExpressioN!
Starting out as a duo and eventually transitioning to a one-man-band, Rui Pedro Moreira is now the one behind the No ExpressioN project. After an amazing 2019 in which he released 12 different tracks racking up 1.6 million Spotify plays, No ExpressioN isn’t here to mess around and he shows just that in the mix he prepared for us. We caught up with him for the usual questions and he was very candid in his answers:
How was your start as an artist?
No ExpressioN started as a duo. We started to make DJ sets and mashups together, but after 4/5 months, my colleague quit the project. My passion was way to big to just drop it, and that helped me start making music all by myself and carry on ”No ExpressioN” alone. This was 7 years ago. I never got any kind of help besides YouTube tutorials, and last year I signed and released 10 songs in 5 different record labels. Hard work always pays off, even it takes 6 or more years (ahah).
Who’s your biggest inspiration?
When I started, back in 2013, my biggest inspirations were Martin Garrix and Armin Van Buuren, but I never got inspiration just for 1 DJ/producer. But it’s fair to say that my biggest inspiration ever was Oliver Heldens.
What obstacles did you face along the way and how did you surpass them?
I used to play drums, electric & classical guitar. My parents always supported me in music, but when I told them that I wanted to be a DJ and music producer, they thought it was just stupid and wouldn’t take me anywhere, so I had to buy my own equipment, step by step, with all my savings. Of course, I had some other small obstacles but this one was the hardest one.
