Laidback Luke sat down with A-Trak to talk about his career, label and the always controversial topic of “real DJing”.
A-trak’s career has been pioneering and innovative since day one. Born Alain Macklovitch, the DJ/Producer’s has had a career spanning for over two decades, which led world renowned magazine Rolling Stone to name him one of the “50 Most Important People in EDM”.
He became known as the first DJ to win all three major DJ competition titles (DMC, ITF and Vestax) and in 1997 he became the youngest winner of the DMC World DJ Championship at the age of 15, a record that held for almost twenty years. His label, Fool’s Gold, founded in 2007, has also developed a reputation of its own, after being credited for developing the career of artist like Kid Cudi, Danny Brown and Flosstradamus.
Laidback Luke took the opportunity then to interview A-Trak in his latest vlog. They tackled A-Trak’s early career, as well as the transition from a 20 minutes scratch set to a full hour. He also reminisces about growing up in Montreal and the influence of French artists as Daft Punk, meeting Justice, his label/events company/full on brand Fool’s Gold, and on-stage habits.
