Following an interview with Complex Magazine, it seems like next year we will have to say farewell to the amazing trio that is Major Lazer. During the interview, Diplo mentions that their next album, which will be released next year, will indeed be their last.
Having just released “Afrobeats”, a 17-track mixtape giving exposure to many great artists, everything seemed to be following the right path until news came in. Diplo explains the reason why they made this mixtape, a day before the launch of their Africa tour.
“The South African dance scene has been ahead of everyone at the moment. If you ever watch Childish Gambino’s ‘This is America,’ it was choreographed by a South African woman (Sherrie Silver). A lot of dancers do a lot of moves that are original from South Africa.”
Responsible for a handful of #1 ranked hits such as “Light It Up”, “Lean On” and “Powerful” the group has been breaking barriers for everything Moombahton, taking the genre to the next level and presenting it to every corner of the earth.
This year marks a decade of Major Lazer and in commemoration, a special release will be made. He (Diplo) says:
“a bunch of stuff you haven’ t heard like that we made the last ten years. Next year marks our last album, so we got a lot of stuff in between now and then.”
This statement was what took social media by surprise, with fans all over the world reacting in sadness. Not all is bad news as Diplo will be continuing his work, casually confirming to Complex that he will be working with JuiceWRLD, Lil Yachty and Trippie Redd.
Ending on a more positive note, congratulations to Major Lazer on their 10 years of outstanding music!
