Steve Angello and Mako’s classic anthem “Children of The Wild” was released 3 years ago, on July 1st, 2015.
It seems like it was only yesterday that the Swedish House Mafia announced their breakup, and performed their last show “ever” on Ultra Miami 2013, which, as we now know, turned out to be their second to last show ever (so far). Following the breakup, Axwell announced that he would join forces with Sebastian Ingrosso as Axwell /\ Ingrosso, which left Steve to be “fed to the wolves”.
He then began a journey in which he went back to basics, to discover once again the true essence of music. This journey led to the release of “Children of The Wild” and his album “Wild Youth”, which includes the track in question.
For the now timeless classic, Steve Angello teamed up with American DJ/Singer-songwriter duo Mako. The duo had been making waves in the dance music world for their chilling and hauntingly beautiful tracks, like “Our Story”, “Ghosts”, and “Smoke Filled Room”, which gathered support from DJs like Sander Van Doorn, Avicii, and DubVision.
Their skills, combined with Steve’s knowledge and “production magic”, made “Children of The Wild” into the otherworldly track it is today.
It starts with a few distorted synths and the amazing vocals from Mako. Add a couple of simple drums, vocals sampled from children, and a catchy melody, and you get what is essentially an anthem to child freedom. The song’s video – a masterpiece directed by French director Guillaume Panariello – also portraits that, and Angello even donated all of the money the track made on Spotify to the Save The Children organization.
