This week at the Music Box in Lisbon we received once again in Portugal one of the great names of Dubstep and Grime, Kode9 one of the great influencers in underground music.

Steve Goodman also known as Kode9, was born in 1973 in Glasgow in Scotland. Like many of the British producers he had his first contact with Old School Jungle, Drum & Bass and Garage, which were essential for the production of his musical style, which also included bases in Indian music.

In the late 1990s, Kode9 moved to London and started his career as a DJ and producer in clubs such as “FWD” (The Future Sound of the Underground). In 2004 he founded his label Hyperdub with members like Burial, Dj Rashed, Zomby among others.

It was not the first time Kode9 was here in Portugal, in 2013 he was here, but came back this past Friday on October 29 in the Music Box with a performance of 2 hours with great successes like “9 Samurai “that the public raved about their aggressive and obscure basslines and making an undergorund environment like we even had in a British nightclub, probably the best time of the night. A very receptive audience, without any kind of confusion were there all for the same reason listening to good underground music, a good environment with excellent conditions for an excellent performance.

At the end of his performance we got a few minutes to talk to him to know his opinion about his performance in Lisbon, Kode9 replied that he was not expecting such a good audience, said that he seemed to be at home and that he hopes to return here.
