Billboards Music Awards are just around the corner, being possibly one of the most important music awards in the world.

The show started in in 1990 by the magazine with the same name – Billboard – which cover music business, popularity chart and other music related topics. In the 2006 the show went dorment until 2011 where it returned, this year’s show will air on May 21 on ABC. Unlike other awards, such as the Grammy Award, which winners are determined by votes received by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, the Billboard on the other hand the winners are based on album and digital song sales, streaming, radio airplay, touring and social engagement, as well as fan voted categories.

This year The Chainsmokers were nominated for a total of 22 awards only rivaled by Drake – Who also got nominated for 22 awards – the American duo released an album “Do Not Open… Memories Inside” and various hits which broke various records such as most plays on youtube in 24h with “Something Like This” and being number 1 on the Billboard charts for the most consecutive weeks with “Paris“.
