Producer Jeff Mills was decorated as an official of the Order of Arts and Letters of France in private ceremony in Paris on Friday April, 29.
The ‘Medal of Arts and Letters of France‘ is the second highest honor anyone can receive for enriching French culture. The title, which is not strictly limited to French artists, is given to those whose work has greatly enriched the French culture. It should be noted that this is not the first time that the artist has received French decorations. Other artists have received this same medal, such as Pharrell Williams, Elton John, Tim Burton and Jim Jarmusch.
Jeff Mills is an artist immune to the action of time. It began to take its first steps in music in the mid-1980s. And it is a world colossus of music, currently in techno and minimal. Mills, was responsible for the emergence of a particular sonority within the industry that is the ‘Detroit Techno’. First, it acted as “The Wizzard”, later in the underground, ends up using his name, Jeff Mills.
This composer, which does not go unnoticed in any part of the world, let alone in Portugal, and a short time ago, on March 24, he released the album “Planets”, which resulted from a live recording with the Symphonic Orchestra of the Porto at the Casa da Música. Thus we remember the last passage in Portuguese lands, one of the most influential people in the techno industry.
