French legendary producer Laurent Garnier was awarded the highest French honorific award by the Government, as a award for the 30 year long and successful career.
Laurent Garnier, is a French electronic music producer and DJ. Garnier began DJ-ing in Manchester during the late 1980s. By the following decade, he had a broad stylistic range, able to span deep house, Detroit techno, trance and jazz. He added production work to his schedule in the early 1990s, and recorded several albums.
Laurent found his love for Dance Music early on, he says “By the time I was ten years old my bedroom looked like a nightclub. There were strobes, multi-coloured flashing lights, a disco ball, a DJ booth and a dance floor”, in a facebook post Laurent thanks his fans for all the support, the post is written in French, but can be found translated below.
I am deeply touched to receive the highest French honorific award to have served and defended a song that originally suffered so many prejudices and aroused so much of incomprehension.
It has my eyes, this distinction represents not only the consecration of my 30 years of career, but of a collective history.
The story of a whole community that believed and fought for their dreams, so utopian and obsolete that they could have appeared.
It is a recognition for the direct and indirect agents, for the illustrious strangers who tirelessly share as I do a true passion for this song.
The message is beautiful and symbolic gesture for all of us, and I hope it can give hope to a new generation of artists.
So it is with emotion and pride that I accept the legion of honor.
To all those who follow me, support me and give me support in these last thirty wonderful years, I would like to dedicate it to you.
Let’s keep everything crispy! Laurent Garnier
