This marks the first time ever that vinyl has out-performed digital media. In the week of November 28th, Vinyl sold £2.4 Million compared to £2.1 Million from streaming media platforms, reports the Entertainment Retailers Association.
The reason behind this is unclear, but a few reason can be attributed to this such as the hype behind the Record Store Day, or he fact that consumers prefer the analogue texture to a digital download. The holidays coming up can also be behind the sudden shift, British retailers such as Tesco and Sunsbury’s have increased the amount of vinyl stocked compared to previous years. World Wide for instance the supermarket chain LIDL released a low cost record player.
The UK vinyl industry also saw a growth for the eighth year in a row, does this mean that Vinyl will take over Digital Media? What is your opinion, let us know!
