2016 is coming to a close, and with it a 42% increase of price on the Performance Permit for Artists, entertainers and athletes. US Citizenship and Immigration Services have announce the increase to go up from $325 to $460, starting December 20th.
Those whom come from Canada, however, won’t be required to be pre-cleared and pay the additional fee unlike the performers from hailing from other countries. Many have raised awareness as to why the unexpected raise on the already high fees for artists to enter the country, despite a simpler application process for Canadians.
“While we recognize that for Canadians the USCIS artist visa process may be more simplified than other musicians seeking to enter the United States under the same permits, however, a fee surge of this kind adds an additional and unacceptable financial burden on our members.”
Liana White, executive director at Canadian Federation of Musicians, told Billboard.
There is a schedule debate to discuss the raise on the fee, between USCIS and members of the U.S. nonprofit arts sector.
