Stay true Portugal was yet another long sweaty club night, were music and culture was the center piece.
Stay True Journey with Ballantine’s Scotch Whisky landed in Lisbon to explore the dynamic cross-pollination of African sounds and Portuguese dance music. Not only a spotlight for the hyper-fresh Afro-Portuguese sounds coming from Lisbon’s ghettos and beyond, it featured Buraka Som Sistema were they payed tribute to a decade of the city’s classic club tracks.
The Boiler Room occurred on the 2nd of June, 2016 and it was a great success, with Kuduro, Jungle and Techno sounds that breathed Lisbon culture everywhere. Lisbon has been a multicultural city for as long as we can remember, were different cultural mesh together like nothing seen before, the Boiler Room showed this to perfection.
Of course the headliners were Buraka Som Sistema, Buraka are regarded as one of the best Dance Music exports Lisbon has to offer. Buraka Som Sistema was an electronic dance music project from Portugal, specializing in a fusion of techno beats with the African zouk and kuduro genre. It is generally credited with creating the “zouk bass” and “progressive kuduro” variant and has received an MTV European Music Award. In 2015 Buraka Som Sistema they would be taking an hiatus starting in 2016, and on July 1st 2016 they performed live for the last time in Lisbon.
